Why Recording Techniques Important ?

Many people in engineering line they give very less focus on sound recording techniques which is the backbone for getting good quality sound.Recording skills place important role for a song to get into proper shape and quality.Mixing and manipulating a sound comes in later phase of engineering but recording is the first step for any engineer to get descent sound out of any individual instrument.

Acoustically different instrument sound differently so it is  must for engineer to know the actual timbre of a specific instrument and how they sound in different acoustical ambience then we can place the microphone in a room as per the requirement for a song , Once we record song at its best then comes manipulations with effects processor and dynamics processor. Its very sad part that now days people relying on sampled recordings in different DAWs , instead of using sampled recordings we can record song as per the requirement and one can use his creative ideas to get creative sound from creatively made environment by God. Their is no specific thumb rule for recording but we will look into some widely used basic recording techniques and how they are implemented in next post.

Microphone placement techniques, and so they simply set up a couple mics in what they think is a good place. Often, the recordings have too much or too little bass, poor or exaggerated left/right stereo imaging, or poor depth (front/back) balance among various sections of the instruments or voices, or too much or too little room “ambience”.

For music recording which is intended for stereo playback, a variety of microphone placement techniques have become well-established over many decades. Among them are A/B, Decca tree, MS, ORTF, X-Y, close miking, and others. Each of these techniques have proven to possess certain useful and desirable characteristics in various situations. Each of them also possess characteristics which are undesirable in certain situations. A knowledge of these characteristics will help a person to make better recordings.
